How do I tie dye shoes?

Since traditional tie dye involves twisting up a t-shirt or other garment and holding it in that way with rubber bands, may I suggest that you use duct tape instead to create a design, then drop the shoes into the dye with the duct tape on them? Then after they dry, remove the duct tape, and presto! Tie dye lookin' kicks!
