Mild to severe sore throat for 4 months straight?

I hate to be a bother for something that is common. But, I have had a sore throat for the last several months. I saw a doctor a few weeks ago and they could find nothing except my throat is red. I do have sinus drainage and for the last several days it feels like it is affecting my ears also. The doctor gave me a pill that is supposed to help with allergies, but it has not seemed to help. The only relief I get is when I take lozenges or drink something hot. However, as soon as I am through with that, it starts to hurt again. Any ideas? Thanks
