Colonel William Barret Travis commanded the Alamo - he was originally from South Carolina and a lawyer before heading to Texas. Before the Seige of the Alamo he was well known in Texas both by the US settlers and the Mexican government as a `trouble maker' who agitated for Texan Independence. He was only 26 years old when he fell at the north wall of the Alamo the morning of March 6, 1836.
