Why do girls like Uggs?

All the girls at my school and my friends love them. I however, HATE them. They are the ugliest things I've ever seen. And they wear them alll year, even when it's hot. They wear them with jeans. The wear them with sweatpants. They even wear them with shorts. Why? Will someone please tell me why people find these ugly shoes to be so appealing?
