Question for longtime TNA Fans?

I tuned in last night to catch a little of TNA for the first time. I know I'm going to get a little bit of heat for this, but that's okay. Anyway, as I was watching, I couldn't help but notice that I was bored to tears. I ended up changing the channel fairly quickly. Now, I've heard that TNA is more like WCW was during the Monday Night Wars. I was a huge WCW fan back then, because I felt like the storylines were more compelling. I can't help but think this is partly because I don't really know the storylines in TNA right now and I'm willing to give it another shot. But, at the same time, I have stopped watching WWE for years and years and have come back and after an episode of Raw was able to easily figure out what was going on as far as current storylines (maybe this is because WWE overdoes promos and recaps). As near as I can tell, Mick Foley recently won their championship and is going crazy (which is to be expected). So, my question is, for the TNA fans what are the storylines going on in TNA right now that could help someone get into it more quickly by knowing the background and also, what do you think are TNAs qualities that set it apart as a different (and perhaps better) product than WWE?
