I have a Mercury Villager (1994), when it's on parking it goes on reverse and when it's on drive it's on D2?

The gear indicator is out of alignment with the shift lever. All of your indications are 1 position away from your true shift lever position. Take it apart and reposition the indicator. I would bet that if you were in reverse, your car doesn't move because the actual transmission is in neutral.
