Can I avoid watching my dad die in Fallout 3?

Apparently the game is glitching b/c dad is standing on a super mutant body and not the floor, so he won't effing die!! I realllly don't wanna have to start the game over. Is there ANY way to just kind of skip past it and continue the Project Purity quest?
